Kevin: Yin Yoga for the Hips and Legs (60 minutes)
59m
In Yin Yoga, poses are held for longer periods of time with minimal muscular effort. This will hopefully create a deeper release in the body, as these sustained holds can begin to impact the fascial network that connects all the muscle fibers to one another. Yin is typically practiced without props, but as a hyper-mobile yogi, I prefer the support that props can provide. Blocks, blankets and bolsters can create an end range for our bodies, allowing each individual practitioner to moderate their own level of sensation and stay in postures without stress or panic.
This particular sequence focuses on the hips and the legs. Each pose is held for 2-4 minutes and there is a little time between poses to observe the subtle shifts that are happening in your body. Modifications and alternate postures are given throughout class for those with issues/limitations in the hip, knee and ankle.
While there isn't much effort here, you will find that this type of practice requires a new form of stamina. You may need to come out of poses sooner than I suggest and that is 100% amazing. Do not get into competition with yourself. If you need to take a break, take one.
If you are a Yin Purist, you are welcome to work without props. If you want to use them, grab two blocks, a blanket and a bolster for class. If you don't have a bolster, I'll show you how to make one with a pillow and two bath towels or thinner blankets at the beginner of the video. Please reach out if you have questions!
