Kevin: Salutation Calibrations (70 Minutes)

Much of modern vinyasa yoga is framed around Sun Salutation (surya namaskar) A and B, as we use these forms as a framework to create the basic structure of class. Unfortunately, these repetitive sequences are often treated as a throwaway in class: "take a vinyasa," "do your flow," etc. If you've ever struggled with poses like chaturanga dandasana or actions like "jumping through," this class is for you.
In class, I break down Sun Salutations A and B, with a particular focus on the sneakily challenging and nuanced transitions between the individual postures. We start by looking at the feet, hands, shoulders and core in a series of conditioning exercises that are challenging for everyone and honestly never get easier. From there, we start to move and flow, eventually breaking down strategies for jumping forward and jumping back. After a long time working on these forms, we briefly explore Warrior 3 Pose and Handstands because you'll be so incredibly well prepped for them.
Definitely avoid this class if you have neck, wrist or shoulder injuries. You should also probably stay away if you are pregnant. Please know that I break down the namaskars in their full form and don't spend a lot of time explaining modifications. If you are interested in moving past a modified pose and trying on the full shape, however, this class is definitely for you. Please reach out if you have questions!
