Rebecca: Intro To Somatics Floor Class
November Week 5
•
55m
Think restorative yoga without so much holding. We will aim to reach a meditative state through flow and subtle movements. Using the principles of Laban/Bartenieff fundamentals, we will roll around on the floor and reconnect with movement patterns we made as infants. These patterns are innate in the body and unless we use them we lose them. With feedback from the floor beneath us, we'll explore the nuances of nurturing child-like movements like rolling over and rocking. The idea is, if you get your body moving in the way it did when you were a child, your mindset will follow perhaps to a baby-like place without self-judgement. Rather than following an alignment or aesthetic-based or goal-oriented movement, this class will emphasize exploration of movement. There is no right or wrong way to do it. I recommend longs sleeves & long pants. The more slippery the surface (i.e. wood floor rather than rug) the better. No props, no mat needed.
